Overview
Rocket Lab is an end‑to‑end space company delivering responsive launch services, spacecraft design and manufacture, payloads, satellite components, and more. Our Electron rockets have become the second most frequently launched U.S. rockets and have delivered over 230 satellites to orbit. We are developing Neutron, a reusable medium‑lift launch vehicle for large constellations.
The Space Systems business designs and builds satellites, payloads, and components that support NASA missions and the James Webb Space Telescope.
Position OverviewGround Systems Engineer II / Senior Ground Systems Engineer – based at Rocket Lab’s Test Facility at Stennis Space Center, Mississippi. Responsible for design, build, and maintenance of critical test facilities supporting the Archimedes rocket engine and Neutron launch vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build, and integrate critical test systems to support all test objectives.
- Collaborate with technicians and engineers to troubleshoot facility and test operations issues.
- Develop maintenance protocols for new and existing facility infrastructure.
- Collaborate with Archimedes engine and Neutron vehicle design teams to prepare and perform tests on key engine and stage hardware.
- Work hand in hand with test operators to complete design, build, installation and checkout of facility systems.
- Maintain cleanliness and integrity of systems, ensure component level verifications and internal standards are met.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering; or other technical discipline.
- At least 2 years of experience in rocket engine test stand or launch complex design and build.
- Working knowledge of Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
- Familiarity with ASME B31.1.
- Experience with NASA GFSSP, Ansys Fluent, and CAESAR.
- Experience using JIRA for work tracking and scheduling.
- Broad engineering background and ability to design systems and develop computer tools for automation or analysis.
- Experience designing or operating facilities for liquid oxygen and liquid methane.
- Experience in weld design and inspection.
- Background demonstrating personal development, e.g., pilot training, scouting, sports teams or leadership roles.
- Working knowledge of computer networks and IT infrastructure.
- Experience working with fabricators and suppliers to achieve on‑time project execution.
- Ability to remain unfazed by ambiguity or changes in strategic direction while maintaining a positive attitude and being self‑actualized and self‑guided.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, operate a computer keyboard and controls, and communicate verbally and in writing.
- Must be physically able to commute to the facility.
- Occasional exposure to dust, fumes and moderate levels of noise.
- Ability to support nights and weekend work as needed.
