The Mechanical Integrity Engineer (MI) is responsible for ensuring the mechanical integrity, reliability, and availability of fixed assets across a specialty chemical manufacturing site. This role drives compliance with Process Safety Management, implements risk‑based inspection programs, leads failure elimination initiatives, and develops asset strategies that improve safety, quality, and total cost of ownership.
Responsibilities- Own and drive the site’s Mechanical Integrity program in full compliance with OSHA PSM requirements (29 CFR ).
- Establish and manage inspection, testing, and preventive maintenance programs for pressure vessels, storage tanks, piping systems, relief devices, and rotating equipment.
- Lead root‑cause failure analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurring issues.
- Evaluate inspection data and fitness‑for‑service assessments to determine equipment integrity, remaining life, and required interventions.
- Manage the Management of Change process for mechanical system modifications and provide technical support during plant turnarounds and shutdowns.
- Track and report key performance indicators such as equipment reliability, inspection compliance, and failure rates.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (Materials, Reliability, or Chemical Engineering with a focus on Mechanical Integrity).
- 5–10 years of experience in manufacturing environments with deep knowledge of PSM and mechanical integrity programs.
- Proven expertise in OSHA 29 CFR compliance, RAGAGEP, and API industry standards.
- Proficiency in root‑cause failure analysis methodologies and fitness‑for‑service assessments.
- Great if you have API 510/570/653 certification.
- Familiarity with PHA/LOPA, relief system design/verification, and specialty chemicals unit operations (batch reactors, distillation, filtration, crystallization).
- Experience implementing RBI software and building MI dashboards.
This is a permanent, full‑time, in‑person position reporting to P&QC and based in Columbus, MS.
