This is a time limited position. The Public Health Program Specialist I (Breastfeeding Peer Counselor) will provide routine periodic breastfeeding related counseling for pregnant and breastfeeding clients via clinic visits, mail, and phone calls according to the Breastfeeding Program Guidelines. Offers breastfeeding information and support. This is a first level professional position also accountable for researching, consulting, planning, promoting, implementing, and/or evaluating a public health program, service, or grant or implementing environmentally influenced public health laws and regulations.

At this level, employees provide assistance to partners, contractors, and agencies involved in program implementation. Positions also perform day to day program activities including meeting with clients, evaluating health information, and participating in public health events.

What you'll need to be Successful

A candidate should have excellent multitasking, organizational, and communication skills. Employees must prioritize work to meet deadlines and be an effective team player. Need to have knowledge of MSDH programs and use that knowledge effectively to assist clients and/or patients as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 0-2 years of experience.

Bachelor of Science degree in relevant discipline, and six months personal breastfeeding experience.
