Job Summary: Provides ongoing COD training to Substance Abuse staff, in addition to maintaining a caseload, provides mental health assessment, evaluation, and counseling for consumers with chemical dependency problems and families of those consumers. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, monitoring EBP, keeping Substance Abuse staff abreast of new treatment in COD, locating new EBP, crisis intervention, acute psychiatric therapy, coordination of consumer referral, and provision of planned education/growth experiences.
Reports to Coordinator of Substance Abuse Services.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Chemical Abuse Treatment or a related field required. Experience as a clinician in a mental health setting or substance abuse treatment facility is preferred. Must be licensed or certified as a mental health professional. A Provisional Certification through the department of mental health (PCMHT) must be acquired and documentation presented to Human Resources within 90 days from hire date and (CMHT) must be obtained within to 2 years from the date or hire.
Must obtain license or certification as a Substance abuse counselor through the Department of Mental Health within 18 months after license / certification is offered. Employee must demonstrate ability to recognize consumers’ individual needs based on medical conditions, age (young adults, middle-aged and geriatric), limitations and planned procedures. Good communication skills are necessary. Must have valid driver’s license in Mississippi and proof of auto insurance.
