The City of Columbus, Mississippi, is accepting applications to fill the position of Fire Chief to supervise approximately 65 employees with an annual budget of approximately $5.4 million dollars. Administrative duties include planning, directing, and controlling departmental activities, including recruitment of personnel, purchase of equipment, control of expenditures, and the preparation of fiscal budgets.
The successful candidate must be able to formulate, implement, and enforce department policies, procedures, rules, regulations and programs in order to secure maximum efficiency of personnel and equipment as well as be able to communicate effectively, orally, written and electronically.
A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university is required; supplemented by course work in Fire Science or Fire Administration, and at least five years of supervisory fire fighting experience at a level which has afforded the opportunity to become familiar with all phases of fire department operations.
The annual salary is $92,700.00. The City of Columbus has an excellent fringe benefit package.
