Process Operator

Job Summary

At Nouryon, the Process Operator will operate the Sodium Chlorate process, ensuring safe, environmentally sound, and efficient production.

• Maintain safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards and supervise safety equipment (safety showers, jump tanks, fire extinguishers, pumps, hoses, respirators).
• Operate process equipment and maintain proper operating conditions to continuously produce quality product.
• Comply with all operating, safety, environmental, quality, and site procedures.
• Report unsafe acts, incidents, near‑misses to the Process Foreman and accident reports to the Chief Technician.
• Document normal, upset, and special process conditions and raw‑material movements as directed.
• Respond to shutdowns, equipment failures, and emergencies to secure the process.
• Perform laboratory analysis of process materials, interpret results, and maintain product specifications.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance, including permits (Hot Work, Lock Out/Tag Out, Line Break, Confined Space).
• Collaborate with adjacent processes and maintain plant cleanliness.
• Provide on‑the‑job training to non‑qualified personnel.
• Operate transport machinery (forklift, rail mover).
• Work a shift schedule as assigned by the Process Supervisor.

• High School Diploma or GED with at least 2 years of post‑secondary or military education in a technical area, or 3+ years experience in the chemical industry.
• Ability to read, analyze, and respond to technical data associated with plant operations.
• Strong basic mathematics skills (fractions, decimals, percentages) and ability to use metric measurements.
• Problem‑solving skills for practical and operational plant issues.
• Ability to interpret laboratory results and take corrective action.
• Knowledge of the site’s equipment such as salt evaporator, crystallizers, electrolytic cells, and dry ends.

This permanent, full‑time position reports to the Chief Technician and is located in Columbus, MS. The role requires capability to work in a chemical manufacturing environment, climbing, outdoor work, various noise levels, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
