About Your Role

As a Deli Clerk at Columbus IGA, you play a key role in delivering fresh, high‑quality food and exceptional customer service in a fast‑paced grocery environment. You are responsible for preparing, packaging, and presenting deli products while maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and merchandising standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, teamwork, and a commitment to creating a welcoming experience for every customer.

You support daily deli operations by balancing efficiency, product quality, and service excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Food Preparation and Product Quality
    Prepares deli items according to established recipes, portion standards, and food safety guidelines to ensure consistent quality, freshness, and presentation of all deli offerings.
  • Customer Service and Sales Support
    Provides courteous, knowledgeable service to customers by responding to requests, answering product questions, and assisting with selections to support a positive shopping experience and drive deli sales.
  • Food Safety, Sanitation, and Compliance
    Maintains compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and internal policies through proper handling, storage, labeling, and cleaning practices within the deli department.
  • Merchandising and Inventory Support
    Supports deli merchandising by stocking, rotating, and displaying products to meet freshness standards while assisting with inventory control, shrink reduction, and supply replenishment.
  • Teamwork and Operational Support
    Works collaboratively with deli and store team members to support daily operations, follow procedures, and contribute to an efficient, organized, and safe work environment.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Obtain Safe Serve Certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Ability to provide courteous, professional customer service in a fast‑paced retail environment.
  • Basic knowledge of or ability to learn food preparation, food safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
  • Strong attention to cleanliness, quality, and safety.
