Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is primarily responsible for performing accounting and general ledger duties and assisting as needed with any functions of the corporate office. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with GAAP, and the integrity of accounting processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Location

This is an on-site position located at our Columbus, Nebraska Administrative Office.

Key Responsibilities General Ledger & Close Process
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, GL account reconciliations, and financial reviews.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Analyze variances and provide detailed explanations as needed.
Fixed Assets & Tax Reporting
  • Maintain the fixed asset and depreciation schedule.
  • Record monthly depreciation and amortization entries.
  • Monitor and maintain sales tax transactions and supporting documentation.
  • Approve sales tax returns prior to filing.
  • Prepare and file annual reports including Personal Property Tax, Form 1099, Unclaimed Property, and Business Licenses.
Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Monitor internal controls to ensure proper procedures are followed and remain compliant with GAAP.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and proprietary information.
Audit & Insurance Support
  • Assist with the annual financial audit and serve as a liaison to external auditors.
  • Prepare audit schedules and provide requested documentation.
  • Assist in filing and monitoring insurance claims for vehicle and property incidents.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, And Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required.
  • Three to five years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to analyze technical accounting issues, determine root causes, and develop remediation strategies for permanent solutions.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while managing multiple priorities.
  • High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
