Senior Accounting Analyst
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Senior Accounting Analyst located at Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. Candidate screening and selection processes will begin July 28, 2026, and the position will remain open until filled. This position will report to the Corporate Accounting Supervisor.
Position Summary:
This position performs activities expected of a seasoned accounting professional to support the accounting and analysis of financial and operational data for timely and accurate reporting of useful information to internal and external stakeholders, consistent with applicable District policies/standards and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This position is the lead for certain projects and responsibilities. This position works collaboratively with others in the financial support services business unit and across the District to satisfactorily complete job responsibilities, and as requested, actively participates on District teams/projects and/or provides team leadership on assigned projects.
Corporate Accounting – Record and report financial information for integrated market settlements, regional transmission organization transactions and other related activities, including certain reports (i.e., market position report). Perform activities related to the accounting for the District's equity investments, including The Energy Authority.
Education, Training and
Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related business degree with a minimum of four years of accounting experience is required. Accounting degree is highly preferred. An MBA in accounting, finance, or a business related field is desired. Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated knowledge of accounting policies, internal controls, and generally accepted accounting principles. Experience in the review and application of accounting pronouncements issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) or another organization is required.
Knowledge of and experience working with SAP and/or similar accounting systems. Effective analytical, problem solving, communication (oral and written), organizational, human relations and customer service skills. Solid leadership skills and decision-making abilities. Must be flexible, self-motivated, able to manage several projects simultaneously and to work independently.
Licenses and/or
Certifications:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required. An MBA in accounting, finance, or a business related field would be considered in lieu of a CPA. Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification is preferred.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provide experienced accounting support for the accurate and timely analysis and reporting for month-end and year-end accounting close cycles and the review and development of subsequent internal and external financial statements and reports, required regulatory reporting forms, and tax filings. May assume a lead role for certain responsibilities. Interact directly with internal and external auditors. Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Participate in and potentially take a lead role in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned. Collect and analyze a variety of complex financial and operational data to perform assigned processes including reconciling assigned accounts; analyze financial data and prepare accounting entries; prepare reports including market position report, fuel cost and inventory summaries, and busbar cost information; prepare and review power invoices/bills and adjustments, etc.
Select methods and techniques to analyze data to identify adverse trends and recommend solutions to mitigate financial impact. Participate in or lead special projects, as assigned.
