Position
Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Accounting Analyst located at the Columbus General Office in Columbus, Nebraska. The position will remain open until filled. The position reports to the Asset Accounting & Miscellaneous Billing Supervisor.
Position SummaryThis position performs accounting activities to support the accounting and analysis of financial and operational data for timely and accurate reporting of information, including financial statements, to internal and external stakeholders. Responsibilities include analyzing and reconciling various general ledger accounts such as cash, receivables, materials/supplies, prepayments, liabilities, debt service, utility plant/fixed & leased assets, regulatory accounts, and revenues/expenses. The role collaborates with others in the financial support services unit and across the District and may participate in District teams/projects as requested.
Fixed Assets – Perform detailed analysis of both owned and leased capital projects, resulting in the creation and retirement of depreciable fixed assets by service level, and ensure timely closing of orders and networks.
Miscellaneous Billing – Invoicing of participation and miscellaneous bills (e.g., work for others, mutual aid, system impact study deposits, lot leases, pole attachments, irrigation) in SAP SD. Record, analyze, and report related financial transactions accurately and timely. Ensure updated SD procedures are available and communicated to users. Ensure reports are updated and follow-up activities are completed for timely collection of miscellaneous accounts receivable balances.
Education, Training and ExperienceBachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related business field (accounting degree highly preferred). OR Associate degree in accounting or business administration with four years of accounting or related experience. OR High school/GED with ten years of accounting or related experience. Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of accounting policies, internal controls, and GAAP. Knowledge of and experience with SAP or similar accounting software systems.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication (oral and written), organizational, human relations, and customer service skills.
Licenses and/or Certifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations preferred.
Provide accounting support for accurate and timely recording, analysis, and reporting of revenues, expenses, assets, and liabilities, including deferred outflows and inflows for month-end and year-end close cycles. Prepare journal entries and assist with the development of related internal and external information for financial statements, schedules, note disclosures, and regulatory reports. Interact with internal and external auditors. Maintain compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures.
Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned. Collect and analyze complex financial and operational data to reconcile general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, prepare accounting entries, and generate related reports. Select methods to analyze data to identify issues requiring action. Participate in special projects such as benchmarking surveys, system upgrades or enhancements, financial analysis, and ad hoc reports.
Provide timely assistance to internal customers, including interpretation of accounting policies and account codes. Prepare presentations and reports on operating results for management and stakeholders. Stay current with accounting standards and regulations and apply GAAP to resolve complex issues. May provide training to others. Crosstrain on other accounting team duties to provide back-up as needed.

Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed, employees may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program (AIP). The typical starting salary range is $6,477.00 – $8,096.00 per month. Travel vary by location and will be discussed during interviews.
