POSITION SUMMARY

The Dentist is responsible for providing quality oral health care services to patients of Good Neighbor Community Health Center (GNCHC), emphasizing the prevention and treatment of disease by the patient. The Dentist will respond to patient’s needs for accessible, quality, oral healthcare regardless of socio-economic status. The Dentist may be responsible for the supervision of dentist and dental hygiene students as requested and assigned by the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) or designee.

The Dentist may be required to fulfill some administrative duties as requested and assigned by the CAO or designee.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provides direct patient care to patients of GNCHC.
  • Participate in the decision-making processes concerning the delivery of dental health services provided by GNCHC.
  • Perform appropriate dental health assessment procedures including, but not limited to oral and radiographic examinations.
  • Order ancillary studies as needed.
  • Perform preventative and restorative dental health care per protocols.
  • Instructs patients in the use of appropriate prophylactic dental care, hygiene, cleansing, and flossing techniques.
  • Develop and utilize written protocols for educational, preventative and screening purposes.
  • Provide counseling, teaching, treatment and appropriate referrals addressing the dental health needs of the patients.
  • Follow-up with patients regarding suspected abnormal conditions.
  • Provide counseling and instruction about related health needs.
  • Refer patients to other sources of health care/community resources as indicated.
  • Completes necessary documentation and reporting in accordance with departmental standards and Federal and State regulations.
  • Maintain documentation in an electronic medical record according to State and clinic standards.
  • Maintain and review patient records including referral and follow up systems.
  • Participate in in-service education for staff as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of new information and materials by reviewing clearinghouse information, newsletters, and periodicals.
  • Maintain appropriate training required for licensing.
  • In collaboration with peers, the COO, and Dental Office Manager, assure the appropriate dental and surgical instruments and supplies are available in the dental unit and are in good working condition.
  • Participate in the dental departments processes for quality measures and other data as required for local, state, and federal reporting.
  • Timely complete all documentation requirements and chart closure to assure quality of care and timely billing.
  • Participate in daily staff huddles.
  • All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION

Graduate of an accredited school of dentistry.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licensure/Certification s

  • Must have a valid Nebraska driver’s license and provide proof of personal driver’s insurance and the ability to utilize own transportation for work purposes.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice Dentistry in the State of Nebraska is required.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license is required.
  • Must meet all credentialing requirements as required by Medicaid, Medicare, and insurances.
  • Must have current certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS).
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Ability to work with an interpreter or language service line if the need arises is required.
  • Cultural awareness of the needs of our uninsured clients, otherwise, willingness to be trained in Cultural Competence.
  • Knowledge and experience in the electronic medical records arena.
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Strong time management.
  • Bi-lingual in English/Spanish highly desired.
  • Ability to work in a team-based setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with clinical and administrative staff and peers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

May require sitting for a long period of time. Some bending, lifting, stooping and stretching required. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to operate office equipment such as computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone and calculator. Some lifting may be involved, up to 35 pounds.
