The City of Columbus has a current job opening and is accepting applications for the position of fulltime Project Engineer.

• Plans and assists in designs of public works projects; assembles specifications for construction projects; completes and reviews the drawing of designs and plans and the computation of cost estimates.
• Works closely with City Engineer on potential public works related projects including planning, grants and financing programs, polices and codes, ordinances, and various other coordinating events and projects.
• Assists the City Engineer in coordinating the work of consulting engineers hired to do studies, designs, and testing.
• Assists the City Engineer in gathering budget estimates for engineering and streets.
• Typically attends meetings of the City Council and the respective Council Committees;
  Planning Commission, Americans with Disability Act Committee, Traffic Control Device Committee, Chamber Transportation Committee, and various other city meetings relating to water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, City properties and buildings, and transportation issues; answers technical questions; attends various study and project meetings as the City representative and answers questions.
• Answers questions from the public regarding compliance with various federal, state and city regulations; makes presentations to civic clubs and community organizations.

• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to public works activities.
• Knowledge and experience in Auto CAD Civil 3D, Excel, and Word. Preferred knowledge in Adobe and or Bluebeam and Microsoft 365 Suite programs.
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering, preferably with a transportation emphasis.
• Minimum Engineering Intern (EI) having passed the Fundamentals in Engineering exam with a minimum of two years of work experience, preferably with utility and transportation experience.
• Additional preference, registered as a Professional Engineer in the state of Nebraska or contain the ability, and in good standing, to become registered.
• Salary Range is $40.87 – 57.22.
