Corrosion Control Technical Specialist

Provides technical expertise, training, qualification evaluations and continuous guidance to field corrosion technicians and management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and support for external, internal, and atmospheric corrosion monitoring and mitigation programs.
  • Support cathodic protection system design, installation, testing, troubleshooting, and interference mitigation, including impressed current and galvanic systems, rectifiers, test points, bonds, and anode groundbeds.
  • Review and analyze corrosion data to identify trends, deficiencies, and required corrective actions; manage remediation logs and drive deficiency resolution to closure.
  • Investigate corrosion control issues, document findings and recommendations, and support corrective action implementation.
  • Review procedures, technical practices, and field applications to identify compliance risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Train and support field personnel in corrosion control practices, procedures, and technical requirements.
  • Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with company procedures, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce departmental corrosion control procedures, policies, and training materials.
  • Evaluate the impact of corrosion programs and procedures on safety, staffing, equipment, cost, reliability, and operational performance.
  • Assist in development of O&M and capital budgets, including work scope development, cost estimating, feasibility review, and equipment selection.
  • Support capital projects, facility modifications, and new installations from design through commissioning.
  • Provide technical leadership and coordination during implementation and commissioning activities involving field operations, engineering, construction, and external vendors.

Requirements:
Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 10+ years of related experience in corrosion control, pipeline integrity, or pipeline operations required.
  • At minimum, the following certification are required:
    • Path 1: AMPP/NACE CP3 – Cathodic Protection Technologist and one of the following AMPP/NACE Certification:
      • Cathodic Protection Interference
      • CIP level 1
      • Internal Corrosion Level 1
    • Path 2: AMPP/NACE CP2 – Cathodic Protection Technician and one of the following AMPP/NACE Certification:
      • CIP Level 2
      • Internal Corrosion Level 2
      • Direct Assessment
  • Knowledge of corrosion control and integrity management regulations.
  • Knowledge of external, internal, and atmospheric corrosion monitoring and mitigation practices.
  • Experience with pipeline defect assessment and repair processes.
  • Experience providing technical support, training, and qualification evaluation for corrosion technicians.
  • Experience designing cathodic protection systems.
  • Experience using corrosion control databases, pipeline data systems, and field data collection devices.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of SOPs, engineering standards, and contractor specifications related to corrosion control.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve corrosion issues involving multiple technical and operational factors.
