The City of Columbus has a current job opening and is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer with Civil Service testing taking place on Saturday, October 3, 2026. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be of good moral character, have no felony or serious misdemeanor convictions, so they will be eligible to attend the Nebraska Law Enforcement Academy.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass Civil Service Requirements. All probationary officers must satisfactorily qualify for and complete a course at the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center as required by Nebraska Statute. The sign on bonus would be paid half at time of hire and the other half after completion of satisfactory probation and FTO Training.
Responsible for patrol and investigation work in protecting life and property and enforcing laws and ordinances in Columbus, Nebraska. Will work a variety of shifts and some weekends. This is a Civil Service position and requires a competitive examination which will take place 9 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Columbus Police Station, 2330 14 St, Columbus, Nebraska. The physical agility test will be on the same day as testing.
A Civil Service interview for higher scoring candidates will take place on a later date to be determined. Bring DD214 for Veteran Credit.
