Regional Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager

What You’ll Do- Program Implementation and Management: Assist facility EHS teams to maintain a safe working environment and ensure the uniform application of environmental, health, and safety programs. Review and revise SOPs, control plans, and Smithfield‑established programs and policies.
- Environmental Management and Efficiency Initiatives: Conduct water, energy, waste, and food‑loss & waste management reviews; develop project scope documentation and project completion documentation; prepare report submissions.
- Compliance and Regulations: Ensure safety compliance with federal regulations and corporate requirements such as Smithfield’s Injury Prevention System (SIPS), PSM, and the EMS; submit all required permits in a timely manner.
- Incident Reporting and Response: Report any incidents to the EHS Operations Director, including regulatory visits, inquiries, fires, significant property damage, chemical spills/releases, EMS visits, and threats.
- Risk Assessment and Audits: Lead corporate audit teams; evaluate risk and implement related programs for worker safety and environmental stewardship; prepare facilities for internal and external audits and close out open audit findings.
- Claims Management: Assist with managing claim costs and participate in case‑management reviews.
- Training and
Education:
Ensure all required training is implemented and up to date; participate in corporate training as appropriate. - Leadership: Drive a positive employee experience through development and coaching.
- Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, health, and safety or related field and 8+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership.
- Ability to make strategic decisions while in stressful situations, including leading emergency response efforts.
- Energized by collaboration and willing to travel to other locations up to 75% of the time.
- Excellent knowledge of OSHA regulations and workers’ compensation processes.
- Multilingual skills preferred; ability to conduct investigations, counseling, training, and mentoring in non‑English languages.
- Strong oral and written communication skills for drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedures in English.
- Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from a diverse audience.
- Detail oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Mobility: Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying materials up to 50 pounds (occasionally 70 pounds).
- Standing: Stand for up to eight hours each day, especially during site visits or meetings.
- Weather Conditions: Work may occur in various weather conditions, including exposure to outdoor elements.
- Terrain: Visits to project sites may involve uneven terrain; mobility and adaptability are essential.
