Smeal (REV Group brand) is a premier manufacturer of custom fire apparatus. This role is for a Quality Technician to enforce NFPA 1901, NFPA 1900, and ULC‑S515 compliance.
SUMMARYThe Quality Technician facilitates and supports QA processes, aiming to reduce defects across the value stream.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Promote a culture where team members consider the impact of work on customers and minimize rework.
- Develop and improve systems and processes to meet customer expectations, regulations, and buy/sell agreements.
- Act as a mediator to clarify customer expectations and provide feedback to manufacturing supervisors.
- Perform pre‑delivery inspections in designated buy/sell areas.
- Enter, analyze, and explain quality data.
- Generate and present quality reports.
- Validate critical and safety items as required by the Build Book.
- Review all deviations, quality alerts, and shipment stops.
- Conduct audits of new and existing processes.
- Write documents and maintain document control (e.g., UL documentation, certifications).
- Lead root cause analysis and practical problem‑solving activities.
- Initiate non‑conforming material documents for supplier quality issues.
- Promote continuous improvement activities and protect customer interests.
- Provide training, information sharing, and orientation sessions.
- Lead by example in safety and team best interests.
- Cover for other technicians as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager or management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Detail oriented with strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Positive, energetic, motivated, professional, and a team player.
- Strong interpersonal skills in a team environment.
- Ability to read relevant measuring equipment.
- Provide appropriate feedback and documentation of defects.
- Self‑motivated and able to stay on task.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Follow all safety guidelines, procedures, and embrace change.
- Current Class B CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Knowledge of NFPA 1901/NFPA 1900 and ability to acquire a thorough understanding of customer expectations and regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to read and understand engineering documents such as part prints and assembly drawings.
- Willingness to:
- Learn and rotate within all quality areas.
- Improve self, area, and company (including pursuing additional training if needed).
- Develop a working knowledge of Spartan’s systems (e.g., E‑Data).
- HS Diploma or GED – required.
- Associates or technical degree in Quality/Manufacturing – preferred.
- Prior quality systems experience preferred.
- Occasional vehicle operation, handling power tools, and operating production machinery.
- Frequent handling of written material, operating office equipment, and working in all weather conditions.
- Occasional extended hours and physical movement (pushing, pulling, bending, lifting, standing).
