OverviewA Fusion Technician at Core & Main has a mix of hands‑on technical, quality‑control, and customer‑facing responsibilities. The role involves operating specialized equipment, performing heat fusion of HDPE pipe, ensuring leak‑free joints, and providing technical support to customers.
Responsibilities- Determine appropriate method and equipment necessary to install pipe.
- Perform heat fusion of HDPE pipe, electro fuses, and structure welds to produce consistently high‑quality, leak‑free joints.
- Communicate with customers to assess needs and identify installation and repair requirements.
- Determine if the final product meets quality‑control standards.
- Transport equipment to job sites and operate field equipment.
- Document quality control findings and maintain accurate records.
- Follow industry standards and Core & Main safety procedures.
- Provide 24‑hour on‑call repair support for emergencies.
- Inspect and maintain fusion equipment.
- Assist with order pulling, stocking, and yard organization when not engaged in fusion activities.
- Escalate complex or unusual problems to the supervisor.
The role combines shop/yard work, outdoor field work, and fabrication work. It may involve early starts, travel to job sites, overtime, and 50% overnight travel. The job requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting, and maneuvering equipment, some of which may be heavy (50+ pounds) or awkward.
Minimum Qualifications- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass pre‑employment assessment(s) if applicable.
- Knowledge of construction job sites.
- High school diploma or GED, strongly preferred.
- McElroy Fusion Training Qualification.
- Electrofusion Qualification.
- OSHA 10, MSHA Part 46 safety training.
- Forklift training.
- Specialized skills training/certification (training is available).
