Job Summary
Senior Electrical Inspector in the Development Services Department of the City of Bellevue. Responsibilities include inspecting complex residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with national, state, and city electrical codes. The role provides technical guidance to contractors, building owners, and the general public, and serves as a subject‑matter expert for high‑hazard or large‑assembly projects.
Minimum Qualifications- Current Master‑level Electrician certificate (ME01) issued by Washington State Department of Labor and Industries and at least four years of journeyman electrician experience after obtaining ME01.
- Four years’ experience as a journeyman electrician performing electrical inspection duties, plus three or more years as an electrical inspector for a jurisdiction, enforcement agency, or similar entity.
- Other experience specified under RCW 19.28.321, coupled with commercial building inspector certifications and qualifications equivalent to a Master Electrician’s license.
- Independently evaluate approved plans and inspect projects ranging from routine to highly complex, with emphasis on high‑hazard, high‑rise, hospital, and large assembly space projects.
- Provide technical advice and accurate direction for customers on complex construction projects.
- Support training and mentoring of other inspection staff to promote consistent code interpretation and application.
- Coordinate with different disciplines and inspection teams to resolve construction issues.
- Serve as an expert witness and prepare documentation for legal action when necessary.
- Perform additional duties assigned by supervisory staff.
Primary Experience
- Possession of the Master Electrician Certificate (ME01) and at least four years as a journeyman electrician after obtaining ME01.
- Minimum three years of inspection work on complex commercial or multi‑family projects at a senior level.
- ICC Commercial Inspector certifications in relevant disciplines; ME01 or equivalent can substitute for an ICC certification for electrical inspection.
- Advanced knowledge of construction practices, codes, and design documents.
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to resolve complex problems independently.
- Valid driver’s license; regular driving is an essential function.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Secondary Experience (optional)
- Electrical engineering or design experience.
- Construction superintendent or foreman experience.
- Experience in building, mechanical, plumbing inspection.
- ICC certifications or equivalents for inspection or plan review.
Physical Requirements
- Walking on smooth or uneven surfaces, climbing stairs or ladders, uses hands to handle tools and objects.
- May need to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 40 pounds.
- Noise level typically moderate in office and louder in the field.
- Requires frequent climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
