Position Summary

Pilot
:
The incumbent pilots NPPD and aviation partner aircraft, providing safe, effective, and efficient air transportation for Nebraska Public Power District and our aviation partner company. Work with the co-pilot in command to ensure the safe outcome of all flights. Subject to random drug testing under NPPD’s Fitness for Duty Program. Emergency response required, with weekend and evening availability. Candidate must live within one hour of Columbus or as determined by management and have the ability to take an on‑call schedule.

Senior Pilot
:
Responsible for the safe execution and piloting of flights assigned, advising on flight procedures and policies in the NPPD Flight Operations Manual (FOM), the Employee Handbook, and applicable regulations. Directly responsible for departmental Safety Management System and safety certifications. Reports to the Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot and holds final authority in the operation of aircraft as Pilot-in-Command (PIC). Accountability based on safety performance, cost effectiveness, and internal customer satisfaction.

Subject to random drug testing, must maintain mental and physical fitness, and respond to emergencies, travel, and flexible schedule including holidays, weekends, early and late hours. Candidate must live within one hour of Columbus or as determined by management and have the ability to take an on‑call schedule.

Pilot
: must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. High school diploma or GED required. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and thereafter subject to random drug testing. Flight experience documented per FAA regulations:

• Minimum 2,500 total hours PIC & SIC (pilot in command plus second in command)
• 1,500 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) multi‑engine
• 500 hours PIC turbine
• 50 hours Garmin G1000 time
• Successful completion of manufacturer’s initial ground training for aircraft being flown upon hiring.
• Attend and pass a part 142 school in a level C simulator or equivalent at least once a year.

Preferred:

• King Air B200 and G1000 time
• Currency with King Air B200 and Beechcraft approved ground and flight school.

Senior Pilot
:
Job Requirements/Qualifications Aircraft

• Airline Transport Rating (ATP)
• 2,500 total hours, 1,500 multi‑engine, 500 PIC turboprop or jet
• Two years of flight experience in the NPPD aviation department or other additional flight experience as approved by the Aviation Manager/Chief Pilot
• Read, write, and speak English
• Completion of manufacturer’s initial ground training for aircraft being flown
• Attend and pass a part 142 school in a level C simulator or equivalent at least once a year

Demonstration of experience and capabilities may be required for employment.

Pilot
:

• Commercial Pilot’s License with Instrument, Multi‑engine, complex, and high‑altitude ratings
• Current FAA Second Class Medical Certification
• Airline Transport Pilot Certification (ATP)
• NBAA Safety Manager Certification or equivalent

Senior Pilot
:

• Airline Transport Rating
• Current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate

Additional duties include acting as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) when assigned, compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and maintaining IS‑BAO Certification. While not flying, the incumbent may assist with dispatch, aircraft maintenance tasks, and other hangar duties.

Pay Grade 13 (Monthly). Typical starting salary range: $7,264.00 – $9,081.00. Eligible for Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation.

Travel required:

More than 75% of the time, with frequent overnight stays (more than 3 per month) primarily within Nebraska.
