Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance team in Columbus, Ohio. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, hands‑on experience with the monthly close process, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. This role plays an essential part in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and GAAP standards.
Key Responsibilities General Accounting- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis.
- Perform balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
- Support month‑end and year‑end close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Assist with producing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Prepare supporting schedules for management review and external reporting.
- Analyze financial activity and variances, providing insights for operational improvements.
- Review AP and AR entries for accuracy and completeness.
- Support cash application, customer billing, and vendor payment processes as needed.
- Assist in managing expense reports, vendor statements, and payment reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and procedures.
- Assist with internal and external audits, preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Maintain organized financial files and documentation to support audit and compliance standards.
- Identify opportunities to automate or streamline accounting processes.
- Utilize accounting and ERP systems effectively; support system upgrades or enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including Finance, Operations, and HR.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate environment.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Experience with accounting or ERP software (e.g., Net Suite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).
- Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas).
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
- Experience in industries such as retail, manufacturing, or services.
- Public accounting or audit experience (firm or corporate internal audit).
- Familiarity with process automation tools or advanced reporting systems.
- CPA or working toward CPA certification is a plus.
