Job Summary

Responsible for managing all aspects of ledger and sub‑ledger accounting for AEP, including accounting activity related to the general ledger closing process and coordinating the review and submission of annual and quarterly financial reports (FERC, SEC, GAAP, etc). Support, direct and develop staff employees and contractors.

Job Description

Join the team that turns complex financial accounting data into clear, trusted reporting — and lead the processes that make it happen. As the Accounting Manager, Financial Reporting, you’ll lead the preparation and review of AEP’s quarterly and annual financial reports and guide the development of high‑quality disclosures. You’ll shape the controls and reporting frameworks that ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance across the enterprise — from SEC financial statements to stand‑alone financial statement reports.

This role is ideal for an emerging leader ready to take ownership of complex reporting processes, manage cross‑functional relationships, and drive continuous improvement in a highly regulated environment. AEP is committed to your long‑term growth, offering leadership development, mentorship, and tuition assistance to help you advance into senior roles across the company. If you’re energized by meaningful work and motivated by the opportunity to lead with purpose, we’d love to meet you.

You’ll Do
  • Manage the preparation and review of SEC and other stand‑alone financial reports, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, and 8‑K and other SEC filings related to financing activities.

  • Lead the EDGAR and XBRL processes to ensure accurate, timely SEC submissions.
  • Stay current on SEC, FASB, and FERC rules and apply new guidance to reporting processes.
  • Develop and maintain strong control processes, including those necessary for stand‑alone reports below AEP‑level materiality.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships within Accounting and with business partners across AEP.
  • Lead and participate in special projects that support strategic initiatives across the organization.
  • Foster strong professional relationships with internal and external auditors to support timely review cycles.
  • Perform analytical reviews of financial data to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Interpret and apply accounting regulations and new pronouncements to reporting activities.
  • Champion initiatives to identify, develop, and implement process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Foster development of staff through coaching and training.
