Project Accountant

Hixen Search Group has partnered with a rapidly growing general contractor, to identify a Project Accountant to support the company's continued growth. This individual will serve as a key financial partner to Project Managers and Operations teams, helping maintain project profitability, billing accuracy, cost control, and financial visibility from project startup through closeout.

• Prepare and submit owner billings and subcontractor billings in accordance with contract terms
• Review and process vendor and subcontractor invoices with proper job cost coding
• Maintain lien waivers, insurance certificates, and compliance documentation
• Monitor project budgets, job costs, and cost-to-complete forecasts
• Assist with Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting and profitability analysis
• Support monthly job cost reviews and variance analysis
• Maintain project financial information within the ERP system
• Assist with month-end close, reconciliations, and journal entries
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Operations personnel
• Support project closeout activities including final billings and cost reconciliations
• Manage financial oversight for approximately 10–15 projects simultaneously

• 1–3+ years of accounting experience
• Experience in a project-based environment or exposure to project accounting
• Understanding of project lifecycle and job cost structures
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred

• Construction industry experience
• Sage, CMiC, or similar construction ERP experience
• Experience with:
• Job costing
• Progress billings
• Retainage
• Change orders
• Cost-to-complete forecasting
• WIP reporting

• Detail-oriented accountant who enjoys partnering with operations teams
