Our staffing firm is partnering with a well‑established organization to hire an experienced Payroll Supervisor for their corporate headquarters in Columbus, OH. This is an exciting opportunity to join a stable, people-focused company with strong leadership support and a collaborative culture.

About the Role

The Payroll Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the payroll department and leads a team responsible for accurate and compliant payroll processing. This includes managing payroll systems, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements, and producing key reporting for organizational leadership. The ideal candidate brings deep technical payroll knowledge, leadership experience, and a background in high‑volume, multi‑state payroll environments—preferably within retail or food service.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data—including employee records and tax setups
  • Lead weekly payroll processing and ensure all pay cycles run smoothly, on time, and in compliance with internal controls.
  • Handle sensitive payroll adjustments such as garnishments, tax updates, direct deposit changes, and other employee‑initiated updates.
  • Identify, research, and resolve payroll discrepancies stemming from data entry issues, account changes, or system-related concerns.
  • Oversee all special payroll runs throughout the year, including bonuses, quarter‑end processing, and year‑end payroll activities.
  • Manage all tax‑related obligations, including preparation and distribution of W‑2s, as well as timely submission of weekly, quarterly, and annual compliance filings.
What You’ll Need
  • Extensive payroll background—typically 8+ years—with proven experience overseeing or mentoring payroll staff
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required
  • Prior exposure to payroll operations within the retail or food service sector is essential
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll systems and the ability to navigate, troubleshoot, and optimize software tools
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, support employee development, and foster a collaborative working environment
  • Advanced analytical thinking with a strong aptitude for identifying issues, interpreting data, and developing solutions
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities and maintaining accuracy in a fast‑moving, deadline-driven environment
