Job Overview
Nationwide, a Fortune 100 company, is seeking a Financial Specialist on the Reconciliation Performance team within Accounting & Finance Solutions (AFS). This hybrid role is based in Columbus, Ohio, requiring onsite presence at least two days per week.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare reconciliations for cash, suspense, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Coordinate with business partners across the organization.
- Investigate abnormalities in balance sheet accounts.
- Develop and implement new or revised accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare and analyze sophisticated financial and regulatory statements.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of all reports, forms and data provided to internal and external clients/customers.
- Recommend management actions or alternatives based on analysis of financial documents.
- Keep informed of changes to GAAP and/or STAT regulatory requirements affecting submissions.
- Lead development and design of new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned area.
- Prepare complex pro forma financial data for compliance with new requirements.
- Assist management in applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.
- Prepare state and supplemental reporting requirements.
- Provide financial information to external auditors, IRS, state examiners and other regulatory agencies.
- Prepare special reports and presentations.
- Serve as a group leader for selected projects and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
- Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance, or business administration; accounting major preferred.
- Progress toward CPA certification preferred.
- Four to six years of related accounting experience; insurance experience an advantage.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Innovative mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external contacts.
- Knowledge of GAAP, STAT, and regulatory requirements related to financial reporting.
- Experience with complex financial statement preparation, including consolidation.
- Ability to analyze, discover, and solve accounting problems and interpret legal requirements.
- Project management skills and proficiency with advanced computer and accounting systems.
Exempt status:
Not eligible for overtime. Normal office environment with possible extended hours during periods of high volume.
