Job Overview
As a team member in Finance at Nationwide, a Fortune 100 company with nearly $70 billion in annual sales, you will support Consolidation Accounting and Enterprise Close Management. The primary responsibilities include coordinating key close and financial reporting deliverables, advising business partners on complex transactions, and managing the timely and accurate delivery of GAAP and STAT financial consolidations for over 150 legal entities.
This hybrid position is located in Columbus, Ohio, and requires you to come into the office as needed. This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization, and Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinates the research, analysis, and implementation of new or revised accounting policies and procedures, developing recommendations to enhance performance, processing, or workflow.
- Advises senior management on acquiring data, records, and preparing complex accounting transactions and statements.
- Responsible for development and submission of complex accounting and financial transactions to ensure accurate reporting at all levels.
- Advises on the accuracy of all reports, forms, and data provided to internal and external clients.
- Coordinates development of actions and policies to address unfavorable financial situations revealed by accounting analysis.
- Functions as the specialist on changes to GAAP or STAT regulatory requirements impacting financial documents, reports, and data, providing consultation on internal impact.
- Acts as project lead in developing and designing new and enhanced systems and processes within the assigned area(s).
- Guides the preparation and analysis of the most complex pro‑forma financial data required for compliance with new requirements.
- Provides advice to management on applying financial data and analysis to solve administrative and operating problems.
- Coordinates and owns the preparation of complex financial information for auditors, IRS, state examiners, and other regulatory agencies.
As assigned, you may undertake additional related tasks.
Reporting RelationshipsReports to the Accounting Manager/Director. This is an individual contributor role and may serve in a project lead capacity.
QualificationsEducation: Undergraduate studies in accounting, finance, or business administration, with an accounting major preferred.
License/Certification: Progress toward CPA is preferred.
Experience: Six or more years of related accounting experience; insurance experience preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities, and
Skills:
GAAP and/or STAT knowledge and functional business area regulatory requirements; knowledge of industry standard methodologies in sophisticated financial statement preparation, including consolidation of companies and subsidiaries; knowledge of taxation principles and related impact on statement preparation; understanding of company organizational structure, products, and services; verbal and written communication skills for internal and external contacts; ability to analyze and solve accounting problems and interpret financial documents and data;
project management skills; ability to interpret changes in financial reporting and legal requirements and their impact on financial statement preparation; effective use of a personal computer and related software; ability to apply accounting principles and theories to specialized, nonrecurring complex problems.
