Academic Affairs Administration | Administration The Accountant is a key member of the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) Fiscal Services team, responsible for ensuring the timely, accurate, and complete recording and reporting of financial information to support decision-making, stewardship, and accountability across all OAA units and fund types. This role performs a variety of accounting and financial analysis activities while contributing to the effective management of fiscal operations in a dynamic and evolving environment.
** Key Responsibilities
*** Perform daily accounting functions, including journal entry preparation and processing, transaction validation, account analysis, and issue resolution.
* Ensure the accurate and appropriate recording of financial transactions in accordance with university policies, procedures, and accounting standards.
* Reconcile assigned accounts, investigate discrepancies and outstanding items, escalate issues as needed, and ensure timely resolution and correction.
* Collaborate closely with Ohio State Accounts Payable, Financial Services, the Bursar's Office, Human Resources, and other university stakeholders to support financial operations and resolve accounting issues.
* Utilize enterprise, third-party, and local systems, including Workday, Tableau, and Microsoft Office applications, to analyze, reconcile, and report on high-volume financial data.
* Partner with Fiscal and Human Resources teams to ensure payroll-related expenses are properly accounted for and accurately reflected in financial records.
* Support managerial and cost accounting functions through the preparation of standard, recurring, and ad hoc financial reports and analyses.
* Contribute to the successful completion of month-end, quarter-end, and fiscal year-end close processes.
* Support audits, internal control initiatives, compliance activities, and continuous improvement efforts that promote sound financial stewardship.
* Assist with special projects, process improvements, and other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the Fiscal Officer 2 and regularly collaborates with University business managers and other business and finance stakeholders across the institution.
The successful candidate will possess a strong accounting foundation, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate the complexities of fund accounting. They will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will also be an effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative team setting.
** Minimum Qualifications
*** Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field with a specialization in Accounting.

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

** Desired Qualifications
*** Experience with higher education, governmental, or nonprofit fund accounting.
* Knowledge of and experience applying The Ohio State University's business principles, policies, and procedures.
* Experience working with financial reporting and data visualization tools such as Tableau.
** Preferred Qualifications
