Role & responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeping Supervisor to oversee day-to-day bookkeeping operations, review and input accounting transactions, supervise bookkeeping staff, and ensure that client financial records are accurate, complete, and maintained on a timely basis. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, hands-on experience with Quick Books, and the ability to manage multiple client accounts while supervising and supporting a bookkeeping team.

  • Perform and supervise the input of day-to-day bookkeeping transactions into the accounting system.
  • Input and review bank, credit card, loan, income, expense, and other financial transactions.
  • Categorize transactions to the appropriate general ledger accounts and ensure consistent account coding.
  • Input and review journal entries, adjusting entries, and year-end entries as needed.
  • Supervise, review, and provide guidance to bookkeeping staff.
  • Review monthly bookkeeping for accuracy, completeness, and proper account classification.
  • Manage bookkeeping for multiple clients and ensure work is completed according to established deadlines.
  • Prepare and review bank and credit card reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Review accounts receivable, accounts payable, loan balances, payroll entries, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Review and maintain the general ledger and supporting account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, including Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets

  • Identify unusual transactions, missing information, and accounting discrepancies and coordinate with clients or internal staff to resolve them.
  • Review fixed asset purchases and ensure proper capitalization and classification.
  • Input and review payroll journal entries and ensure payroll-related transactions are properly recorded.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of sales tax information and other periodic accounting requirements.
  • Review client books and input necessary adjusting entries before providing financial information to the tax preparation team.
  • Coordinate with tax professionals to ensure books are accurate and ready for preparation of business tax returns.
  • Train and mentor bookkeeping staff and provide ongoing feedback on accuracy, efficiency, and work quality.
  • Develop and maintain standardized bookkeeping procedures and internal review processes.
  • Communicate professionally with Accounting managers to obtain missing documents and clarify transactions.
  • Manage multiple client assignments and deadlines, particularly during tax and year-end reporting periods.
Preferred candidate profile
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field
    .
  • Minimum 3-5 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
    , preferably with a U.S.

    -based CPA, tax, or accounting firm.
  • Prior experience reviewing or supervising bookkeeping staff is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of debits and credits, accrual and cash-basis accounting, general ledger accounting, and financial statements
    .
  • Strong experience with Quick Books Online
    , Quick Books Desktop or similar accounting software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with payroll accounting, sales tax, and tax return input is preferred.
  • Ability to independently perform bookkeeping as well as review the work of other team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, accountability, and confidentiality.
