Responsibilities
- Perform confidential work for section attorneys, producing accurate, typed, finished copy of legal documents, confidential materials & correspondence from rough written or electronic instructions requiring knowledge of legal terminology.
- Compose or independently answer correspondence to clients, staff or general public.
- Proofread & correct all correspondence/materials produced prior to submission to attorney.
- Understand filing requirements & physically & electronically file briefs, motions & other documents in state & federal courts.
- Relieve supervisor of some administrative tasks (e.g., assist in setting up office procedures; do research; gather statistics; prepare reports; set up & maintain confidential files, coordinate meetings; prepare agendas).
- Answer section's main phone line, screen calls & visitors for attorneys & other personnel; greet visitors.
- Perform general or routine typing & clerical tasks; make copies; prepare print orders as needed.
- Receive, sort, log & distribute incoming mail; pick up & deliver filings, legal documents, & other office correspondence for section.
- 6 months of work experience performing legal secretary duties in a law firm or legal setting; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Completion of Associate's degree in secretarial/administrative professional science or closely related field from an accredited career school or community college; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Completion of Associate core coursework to qualify for a secretary/administrative assistant diploma/certificate or closely related field from an accredited career school or community college; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Completion of Bachelor's degree or higher in any related field; 1 course or 1 month’s experience in public relations.
- Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
