Job Description
Office of Legal & Acquisition Services The Bureau of State Hearings (BSH) handles appeals from individuals who disagree with decisions made about their public benefits. We make sure every person has a chance to present their case and receive a clear, timely decision regarding their appeal. BSH serves individuals who receive Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Ohio Works First, Child Care, Child Support, Adoption Assistance, and Prevention Retention and Contingency.

What You Will Do
Under administrative direction, performs non-routine administrative tasks (i.e., independently formulates decisions and/or judgments involving non-legal interpretation of policies and procedures to resolve problems, prepare correspondence and reports and/or carry out other assignments) in support of the Bureau of State Hearings Prehearing Resolution (PHR) process; independently reviews eligibility status and benefits; reviews hardcopy information and computer system information (e.g., Hearing and Appeals Tracking System [HATS X];
Ohio Benefits) in preparation for discussions with appellants, appellant representatives and county agency staff; communicates by phone, in person or in writing with appellants, appellant representatives and county agency staff to resolve discrepancies in program eligibility/benefits to reduce the need for cases to go to hearing; documents appeal withdrawal attempts and completions in HATS X; provides technical assistance to county agency staff utilizing various methods (e.g., webinar;
manuals; desk aids). Operates personal computer and applicable software applications to produce, store, calculate and retrieve reports, confidential files, and other documents; maintains accurate and timely electronic case records; handles sensitive inquiries; provides front desk phone coverage. Performs other related duties as assigned (e.g., travels to attend staff meetings, training sessions, workshops and conferences; maintains logs, records and files).

Part-time.
Hours:
Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. This is an intermittent, temporary position. The final candidate selected for this position will not be permitted to exceed 1,000 hours worked per fiscal year (July 1st - June 30th). This position is Unclassified per ORC 124.11(A) (29).

Qualifications
The candidate, at minimum, must have the following:
- Option 1:
Completion of associate core coursework in secretarial science or business office applications from accredited career school or community college, AND 12 mos. exp. in secretarial/administrative professional field. - Option 2: 30 mos. exp. or 30 mos. trg. in secretarial/administrative professional field.
- Option 3: 12 mos. exp. as Administrative Professional 2, 16872.
- Option 4:
The equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.
