Student Support Specialist

The Specialist supports both new and continuing students by ensuring a smooth transition throughout the enrollment process. This position rotates among three different departments, Student Central, Admissions, and Placement Testing based on operational needs. This role provides guidance on key campus services, including financial aid, student records, course registration, and residency for tuition purposes. It also supports the functions of the Admissions Office, welcoming and serving perspective students as well as proctors placement tests.

While the Specialist primarily assists students in person, they may also provide support by phone, email, and chat.

Customer Service

Provides comprehensive customer service in high volume and challenging environment, resolving most issues on the spot and referring students to the appropriate department for further assistance as necessary. Interprets and responds to student inquiries in-person, via the telephone and electronically regarding admissions, financial aid, registration and general college policies and procedures. Provides general support to students and guests, including assistance with registration, student record updates, residency verification, and financial aid processes.

Facilitates prerequisite authorizations and other permissions required for student enrollment. Participates in and delivers engaging presentations. Provides guidance on departmental and campus-wide procedures. Attends college and community events to answer general questions.

Clerical

Scans and copies documents, distributes and processes mail, updates and orders admissions/registration publications/forms and various office supplies. Maintains confidentiality to student records and other information.

Other

Duties & Responsibilities

Attends all required departmental meetings and trainings. Manages multiple assignments of varying complexity while meeting federal as well as internal regulations and procedures, with the ability to adapt to changing needs of the College and business partners. Hours may include working outside of a normal workweek schedule as well as working in multiple locations as needed to meet workload demands, including occasional Saturday morning shifts.

This position is part-time (20 hours per week), with the possibility of up to 29 hours based on operational needs. Hours may vary within the following range:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM;
Wednesday: 8:00 AM- 7:00 PM;
Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 pm;
Saturdays as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

High school Diploma or GED. Three (3) years of clerical experience in the area of the assigned specialized function. An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework and experience may qualify a candidate.

Licenses and Certifications

State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Working Conditions

Typical office environment. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical to business offices.
