This Personal Lines Underwriting Automation and Technology role supports strategic transformation by identifying and executing automation opportunities within underwriting processes.

The role leads initiatives from concept to implementation, develops business cases with cost‑benefit analysis, and contributes to data‑driven decision‑making through pre‑ and post‑production profitability analysis, validation, and ongoing monitoring.

• Underwriting knowledge and expertise – understanding of PL underwriting philosophy, guidelines, and risk evaluation, and how automation aligns with guidelines and risk appetite
• Strong business‑driven technical mindset with the ability to identify complex improvement opportunities and design and implement effective solutions for our Personal Lines underwriting organization
• Working knowledge of rating, pricing, and predictive models and analytics used in PL
• Ability to lead cross‑functional strategic initiatives from concept through execution
• Ability to break down ambiguous, high‑impact business challenges into clear, structured solution designs and take them through full implementation and post‑launch
• Analytical mindset with ability to interpret trends, performance, and operational KPIs and translate data insights into actionable business recommendations
• Ability to coordinate across underwriting, IT, product, operations, etc.
• Clear communicator, strong documentation skills, ability to influence and gain buy‑in
• Ability to create executive‑level summaries

As a consultant you’ll act independently or as a member of a team responsible for establishing a common understanding of the business environment in which a project must be defined, designed, created, deployed, used and supported. You will participate in major process modeling, analysis and design efforts to provide business performance management, organizational design and business risk management capabilities to formulate forward‑looking business transformation plans.

• Partner with senior leaders to transform their businesses through the strategic application of people, processes and technology, identifying complexities, dependencies and duplications.
• Demonstrate expertise in leading business process analysis/design, organizational analysis, needs assessments and cost/benefit analysis to align solutions with business strategies and direction.
• Consult with functional groups within Nationwide Technology and internal business clients to develop short‑ and long‑term business transformation plans.
• Serve as process management contributor and consultant between business customers and systems area for development and implementation of business processes and procedures, communicating to customers, management and external sources.
• Identify critical elements of a business process that need to be managed, define performance success criteria and report performance cohesively.
• Participate in analysis and design of organizational structures, roles, responsibilities, governance, staffing and sourcing to support business goals and process architecture, providing significant contribution in executing unit‑level change.
• Conduct and lead training of customers on business, technological, societal and environmental trends to support strategies for improving business performance.
• Facilitate evaluation and research of new and existing products, procedures and workflow needs, evaluating new technological developments and recommending appropriate system alternatives or enhancements.
• Develop compelling business cases, including gaining senior management input, to accomplish business objectives and mitigate risks associated with current operating models or desired target states.
