Regulatory Consultant Senior – Principal (Generation / Environmental)

We seek a Regulatory Consultant to support regulatory activities related to state‑regulated utility filings with public utility commissions. The role works with operational witnesses to maintain power plants and the grid, meeting regulatory commitments while ensuring system reliability.

What You’ll Do:- Collaborate with witnesses to draft direct and rebuttal testimonies for generation and environmental cases.
- Research prior filings to inform testimony development.
- Assemble, evaluate, and integrate O&M and capital project costs, NERC GADS data, and other data into testimony.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all information provided to regulators.
- Influence case strategy through effective testimony and discovery preparation.
- Lead the response process for discovery requests and commission audits.
- Evaluate requests, assemble data‑driven responses, and coordinate internal reviews.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of formal responses.
- Support witness preparation for public utility commission hearings.
- Review necessary documentation to ensure readiness for hearings.
- Attend hearings at the utility commission as needed.
- Understand compliance filing requirements and ensure adherence to deadlines.
- Collaborate with subject‑matter experts to gather information and meet filing deadlines.
- Lead minor filings and conduct research on various issues.
- Special projects as assigned.
- Highly motivated self‑starter with passion for learning and growing within the electric utility regulation sector.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem‑solving, research, and data analysis abilities.
- Experience or knowledge of generation (fossil, hydro, renewables, new generation) environmental regulations preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance, Geoscience, Mathematics or similar quantitative degree AND 4 years of relative field, operations or analytical experience OR
- Associate’s degree in same fields AND 8 years of experience OR
- High School diploma or GED AND 10 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in same fields AND 6 years of experience OR
- Associate’s degree in same fields AND 10 years of experience OR
- High School diploma or GED AND 12 years of experience.
- Knowledge of GADS and Cognos applications is a plus.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and adhere to expedited deadlines.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills, including ability to articulate strategy and provide guidance.
- May be required to work occasional on‑call requirements over weekends, holidays, vacations, etc. as necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
- Occasional travel will be required.
- Regulatory Consultant Senior (Grade 7): $87,633 – $109,544
- Regulatory Consultant Principal (Grade 8): $98,993 – $128,689
- On‑site at AEP Headquarters in Columbus, OH or Tulsa, OK.
