About Us:
The Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel, the State’s voice for millions of Ohio Residential utility consumers, seeks an employee with a passion for public service to serve as an Analytical Intern. This position is an opportunity to work for an agency with a Mission to help consumers, including at-risk and low-income Ohioans, regarding the affordability, reliability and equitableness of their electric, natural gas, telephone, and water utility services.
Since the legislature created the agency in 1976, we have sought and achieved lower utility bills and more reliable utility service for residential consumers. At OCC, we put Consumers First.
Posting Details:
Part-time position. Applicants for summer only and/or school year employment will be considered. We currently offer a flexible hybrid work environment.
- Assist the Director, Analytical Department and other OCC staff by analysis and research of topics related to the Mission of OCC, such as the costs of utility services and the collection of such costs among consumer groups.
- Review and assess utility company accounting, financial records, and current and prior utility rates.
- Review and verify utility data for service reliability, marketing practices, and protection of consumer information.
- Draft written requests for data necessary for related research and analysis.
- Assist Director in drafting requests for proposals, including work requirements, to solicit consultant work.
- Support case and issue development by gathering and interpreting materials and preparing associated reports from information gathered.
- Research utility-related inquiries from, and issues at the General Assembly and the public at large.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance or a similar field and be currently enrolled in an accredited post‑graduate program pursuing a graduate degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, or similar field. Helpful knowledge includes administrative rules, policies and procedures, judicial and administrative proceedings, legislative processes, legal advocacy, and federal and state utility regulations. The position requires thorough knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, the ability to conduct online research, a commitment to public service, and well-developed writing skills.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and a drug test. Per the Ohio Revised Code 124.151(B), all newly hired employees will be required to have their compensation deposited directly to a financial institution.
