Job Summary

The Regulatory Consultant supports AEP's regulatory activities by helping develop, coordinate, analyze, and execute filings before state and federal regulatory agencies. Working in a collaborative team environment, this position partners closely with Case Managers, attorneys, subject matter experts, and business leaders to support regulatory filings that are critical to AEP's operations and strategic objectives.

This role combines regulatory analysis, project coordination, research, and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities include supporting filing development, managing regulatory processes, conducting industry and peer utility research, coordinating filing activities, and helping ensure regulatory requirements are met. Successful candidates are organized, analytical, adaptable, and comfortable working on multiple projects with competing priorities.

Regulatory Services offers exposure to a wide variety of business functions, including finance, operations, engineering, accounting, legal, and executive leadership. This position provides a strong foundation for professional growth within regulatory affairs, project leadership, and utility operations.

Job Description

What You’ll Do:
  • Support the development and execution of regulatory filings, including testimony development, discovery management, witness coordination, audit support, and case administration.
  • Research and analyze regulatory requirements, commission orders, administrative rules, and industry developments relevant to company filings and initiatives.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking of peer utility filings, commission decisions, emerging regulatory issues, and industry trends to support regulatory strategy development.
  • Coordinate work across multiple organizations to support rate cases, rider and tracker filings, audits, compliance filings, policy matters, and other regulatory proceedings.
  • Analyze financial, operational, and regulatory data to develop insights and recommendations that support regulatory strategy and filings.
  • Support witness preparation activities by helping stakeholders understand filing requirements, regulatory processes, and case objectives.
  • Develop working relationships with business partners across finance, accounting, operations, engineering, legal, and regulatory functions to support successful case outcomes.
  • Assist in developing filing schedules, tracking deliverables, and ensuring compliance with regulatory deadlines and requirements.

  • Takes initiative, follows through on commitments, and successfully manages assignments with increasing levels of responsibility and independence.
  • Able to synthesize complex financial, operational, and regulatory information into clear, concise, and actionable recommendations.
