Project Surveyor

Our client is a leading Midwest-based GC/CM seeking an experienced Project Surveyor to support vertical construction projects in the Columbus market. This is a jobsite-based role focused on full building layout, scanning, and coordination across all disciplines. The Project Surveyor is a key member of the project team and works in close partnership with the VDC department
, field leadership, and project engineers.

This role is intended for a senior-level construction surveyor with complete, end-to-end experience supporting large commercial or mixed-use buildings — not underground utilities, pipelines, or heavy civil work.

• Perform building layout using Trimble robotic total stations
  , Topcon technology
  , and Leica scanners (scanner training available if needed)
• Utilize builder-level lasers and surveying instruments for vertical construction layout
• Set building grids, calculate points, and establish horizontal and vertical control
• Lay out foundations, footings, anchor bolts, columns, exterior panels, and interior partitions
• Establish column lines, wall locations, and set points in new construction and existing buildings
• Scan concrete after pours and provide elevation data to support VDC coordination
• Proactively identify design discrepancies and initiate RFIs
• Ensure CAD and layout files are properly configured and uploaded into Topcon
• Support layout for all disciplines while maintaining a vertical construction focus (limited civil scope only)
• Work across multiple project sites as needed
• Collaborate closely with the VDC team

• Operate as part of a project team with direct support from a Project Engineer — this is not a solo role

• Proven experience as a Project Surveyor on vertical construction projects
• Strong hands-on proficiency with Trimble and Topcon systems
• Exposure to Leica scanning or willingness to be trained
• Demonstrated A-to-Z building layout experience

• Strong ability to read and interpret full construction drawings and blueprints
• Solid understanding of CAD-based layout workflows and file setup
• Experience on large commercial or mixed-use projects preferred
• Candidates with primarily civil, pipeline, or utility survey experience are not a fit for this role
