This assignment provides on-site safety oversight for a mechanical subcontractor supporting a data center construction project in the Columbus, Ohio area. The Field Safety Manager will support active mechanical construction operations and ensure safe work practices are consistently followed across HVAC, underground piping, fall protection, and confined space activities.
Scope of Work- Safety oversight of mechanical construction activities including HVAC systems and underground piping
- Enforcement of fall protection and confined space entry requirements
- Field-based hazard identification and proactive risk mitigation
- Oversight of mechanical work practices, equipment use, and material handling
Incident investigation, documentation, and reporting - Daily interaction with craft personnel, foremen, and site leadership
- Support of site-specific safety programs and regulatory compliance
- Maintain a consistent on-site field presence during active work hours
- Monitor mechanical construction activities for OSHA and site safety compliance
- Identify, communicate, and assist in correcting unsafe conditions or behaviors
- Conduct job hazard analyses, safety orientations, and toolbox talks
- Complete daily safety documentation, inspection reports, and incident reports
- Participate in site safety meetings and coordination efforts
- Support incident prevention initiatives and continuous safety improvement
- Minimum 5+ years of field construction safety experience
- Strong Mechanical Construction Background, Underground Piping Experience Required
- OSHA 510 required
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification required
- Fall protection and confined space training required
- Data center construction experience is a major plus
Candidates must understand the difference between permit-required and non-permit confined spaces. Mechanical and underground piping work often involves changing conditions, and misclassification of confined spaces is a serious safety risk. Strong hazard recognition and compliance with OSHA confined space requirements are essential for success in this role.
