The Project Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of heavy highway and civil construction projects to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of construction activities to support project schedules and budgets.
- Design, review, and implement temporary works and construction means and methods with a strong emphasis on safety.
- Inspect installed work, equipment, and materials; identify issues and coordinate corrective actions.
- Provide on‑site direction and technical support to foremen, crews, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and prepare accurate daily reports, quantities, and documentation.
- Perform quality control inspections to ensure work complies with contract documents, plans, and specifications.
- Verify materials and workmanship meet project requirements and approved submittals.
- Enforce safety policies, OSHA regulations, and proper use of PPE on the job site.
- Support project cost tracking, schedule updates, and coordination with project stakeholders.
- Assist with communication between the field, project management, owners, and inspectors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of one year of experience as a Project Engineer, Field Engineer, or similar role in heavy civil or highway construction.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and materials used in civil infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and job‑site safety practices.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and occasional holidays.
The project is located in Columbus, Ohio; subsequent projects will be national. Work is performed on active construction job sites with exposure to outdoor weather conditions and heavy equipment. Walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting are required. Use of PPE is mandatory.
