Estimator, Construction, Civil Engineering

Strawser Construction Inc., a subsidiary of Barrett Industries Corporation, provides pavement preservation solutions for public infrastructure and private clients. We are currently looking for an Estimator. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Estimator coordinates road construction projects within tight time frames and budgets, ensuring adherence to project specifications.

• Research, track, and solicit bid advertisements and bid invitations.
• Prepare preliminary estimates using best practices for entering bid into HCSS.
• Review bid specification data and requirements and plan bid preparation and submission.
• Serve as primary liaison with client during bid evaluation process and before project start.
• Attend pre-bid meetings as required.
• Collect bid documents for target projects.
• Build and maintain relationships with prime contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Analyze documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Review constructability/production analysis of bid documents.
• Prepare estimates used by management for planning, scheduling work, and selecting vendors or subcontractors.
• Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction operations to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
• Develop estimates from various types of bid documents and their key components including bonding, insurance, indemnification, and damage clauses.
• Ensure applicable federal/state prevailing wage rates guidelines are considered, monitored, implemented, and maintained per project bid requirements.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Strong mathematical skills.
• Previous knowledge of Heavy Bid, Heavy Job, and JDE Edwards a plus.
• Basic understanding of economics and accounting.
• Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects concurrently.
• Bachelor's Degree – Engineering, Construction Management or similar technical training/experience preferred.
• 1‑2 years of experience in project cost estimating or a similar capacity.
