Position Summary:
Responsible for estimating and takeoffs of plumbing, HVAC including sheet metal and/or fire protection projects. The individual should have a good understanding of all aspects of estimating for mechanical contracting and be able to communicate effectively with contractors, designers, owners, and job-site personnel, while representing TP Mechanical Contractors in a professional manner. Must be able to understand the design intent and fill in missing information to complete an estimate.
An Estimator III may be required to finalize project bid submission on behalf and under the direction of the VP of Business Development, Design, & Estimating.
- Reading and understanding project specifications and drawings.
- Provide projects material takeoffs and pricing.
- Attend project site surveys and walks.
- Input missing information in the bid documents. Completing the design with intent.
- Provide conceptual drawings of material take-offs showing design intent.
- Must stay current with all estimating software and attend training courses as needed and/or required.
- Provides the VP of Estimating quantitative material take-offs and inputs information into spreadsheets.
- Ensures smooth and timely estimates.
- Collaborates with vendors and subcontractors to secure scopes and pricing including but not limited to calling and/or meeting with them to discuss their scope of work.
- Ability to clearly write scope letters.
- Finalize project estimates from the direction of the VP of Estimating.
- Provides detailed and complete information to operations leaders for smooth project turnovers, including all quantitative take-offs, quotations, and email correspondence.
- All other duties as assigned.
Experience:
- 12 years’ experience in commercial plumbing, heating, and or fire protection estimating, or completion of approved apprenticeship program and 5 years’ experience as a Journeyman.
- 8-12 years prior estimating experience.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
- Knowledge of general plumbing and piping installation, sheet metal, HVAC, or fire protection (as assigned).
- Good math ability.
- Good computer skills (knowledgeable with Microsoft Excel, Word & Outlook).
- Detail oriented.
- Good time management.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to learn new systems and technologies.
- Trimble Viewpoint and/or Quick Pen, Autodesk Est-MEP, and Quote Soft experience preferred.
- Bluebeam experience preferred.
- Ability to conduct scope reviews with clients/customers.
- Ability to communicate on a professional level in front of peers, co-workers, and customers.
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or finance and/or equivalent associate degree in project management.
- Journeyman Plumber license or equivalent experience.
- Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent experience.
- Journeyman Fire Protection license or equivalent experience.
- Eyesight correctable to 20/5 or better.
- Capable of job site tours, climbing ladders and on/off equipment, etc.
- Valid driver’s license.
- OSHA 30 hours.
- Required to work onsite within office location.
- May require travel between office locations as needed.
