Overview

As an Estimator, your primary responsibility will be to calculate—with the utmost accuracy—the total cost required to complete Thompson’s ongoing and future earthmoving and dirt work projects.

• Meeting with Project Managers and Superintendents to review cost projections and budgets
• Reviewing project specifications, blueprints, site surveys, and geotechnical reports
• Calculating the cost of labor, equipment, material, operator time, hauling, and disposal fees
• Negotiating bids and proposals from GCs, developers, and property owners
• Generating “bid packages” of proposals and estimates in Pro Contractor
• Completing front-end reports, addendums, pay schedules, and plans sheets
• Conducting site evaluations to identify logistical challenges and accessibility issues
• Identify and address safety hazards and other site conditions that may impact costs
• Building contingencies designed to avoid potential risks associated with projects
• Maintaining positive relationships with clients, property owners, and managers
• Conducting post-project evaluations to identify “lessons learned” for the future
• Performing additional duties throughout the course of ongoing and future projects

• At least 2 years of Estimator experience in construction/earthmoving/dirt work
• Experience conducting high-priced negotiations and formal presentations
• Must possess a Valid Driver’s License and be able to drive company vehicle(s)
• Strong knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (Pro Contractor is a plus)
• Must be willing and able to travel around the Midwest (OH, IN, KY and WV)
