Mission Hires is seeking a Preconstruction Manager with strong industrial construction experience to lead our preconstruction function, including in-house architectural design and estimation, external engineering coordination, and bid management. Reporting to the General Manager and supervising 4–5 direct reports, you will own the end-to-end preconstruction lifecycle—safety, schedule, budget, and quality—while serving as the primary liaison between design/estimating, business development, and construction teams.

This Columbus, OH–based role includes USA/Canada travel (vehicle provided) and may occasionally support site management post-award.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee internal architectural work across SD, DD, CD, Bidding, and Construction Administration phases
  • Meet clients to understand objectives and produce schematic site and building designs in coordination with preconstruction teams
  • Lead architectural design development and coordinate with internal/external civil, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical engineers for estimate-ready documents
  • Prepare complete bid packages with internal design/estimating teams and external engineers
  • Drive value engineering initiatives during the bid stage
  • Coordinate with Business Development, design, and estimating to maintain client-driven preconstruction schedules
  • Develop, present, and justify budgets, reports, scopes, and project schedules for leadership review
  • Source and prequalify contractors; obtain and evaluate multiple bids to verify price reasonableness
  • Schedule and lead meetings with clients, site managers, and internal staff
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents to produce bid documents, correspondence, and estimates
  • Stay current on safety codes and construction industry standards
  • Manage consultant (outside architect/engineer) deliverables for accuracy and compliance with company standards
  • Attend project meetings as needed and review submittals from engineers and contractors
  • Oversee site and building permit applications; track reviews and secure approvals; coordinate urgent payment requests as necessary
  • Plan and manage preconstruction work allocation and timelines to meet client quotation deadlines
  • Provide on-site support for design changes after project start, including drawings, estimates, and agency applications
  • Assess team capabilities and manage to maximize effectiveness; mentor and empower team members
  • Transfer critical preconstruction information to construction (client requests, quality expectations, budgets, milestones)
  • Supervise minor construction projects when a Project Manager is not continuously on site
  • Travel across the USA and Canada as required
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in architectural planning and design and/or construction estimating (industrial projects strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and web‑meeting tools
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documents
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulatory guidelines; familiarity with modern construction principles and practices
  • Demonstrated ability to lead preconstruction design and estimation, and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering inputs
  • Experience preparing bid documents, scopes of work, budgets, and schedules
  • Proven contractor development, bid solicitation, and price analysis capabilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to interface effectively with clients, internal teams, and contractors
  • Organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with strong time management and attention to detail
  • Leadership and people‑management experience overseeing technical/professional staff
  • Math proficiency in algebra, geometry, and basic arithmetic for takeoffs, estimates, and cost analyses
  • Ability to travel within the USA and Canada; valid driver’s license
