Senior Plumbing Estimator

Overview

Responsible for estimating and takeoffs of plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal, and/or fire protection projects. Must have a solid understanding of all aspects of estimating for mechanical contracting, and be able to communicate effectively with contractors, designers, owners, and job‑site personnel while representing TP Mechanical Contractors in a professional manner. Should understand the design intent and fill in missing information to complete an estimate.

An Estimator III may be required to finalize project bid submission under the direction of the VP of Business Development, Design, & Estimating.

• Read and understand project specifications and drawings.
• Provide projects material takeoffs and pricing.
• Attend project site surveys and walks.
• Input missing information into the bid documents and complete the design with intent.
• Provide conceptual drawings of material take‑offs showing design intent.
• Stay current with all estimating software and attend training courses as needed.
• Provide the VP of Estimating with quantitative material take‑offs and input information into spreadsheets.
• Ensure smooth and timely estimates.
• Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to secure scopes and pricing, including calling and/or meeting with them to discuss their scope of work.
• Write clear scope letters.
• Finalize project estimates under direction of the VP of Estimating.
• Provide detailed and complete information to operations leaders for smooth project turnovers, including all quantitative take‑offs, quotations, and email correspondence.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Experience and Qualifications:
  • 12 years’ experience in commercial plumbing, heating, and/or fire protection estimating, or completion of approved apprenticeship program and 5 years’ experience as a journeyman.

  • Trimble Viewpoint and/or Quick Pen, Autodesk Est‑MEP, and Quote Soft experience preferred.

  • Ability to communicate on a professional level in front of peers, co‑workers, and customers.
• Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or finance and/or equivalent associate degree in project management.
• Licenses:
  • Journeyman Plumber license or equivalent experience.
  • Journeyman HVAC license or equivalent experience.
  • Journeyman Fire Protection license or equivalent experience.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Eyesight correctable to 20/50.
  • Capable of job site tours, climbing ladders and on/off equipment, etc.
• Special Requirements:
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • OSHA 30 hours.
  • Required to work onsite within office location.
  • May require travel between office locations as needed.
