Job Summary
Insight Global’s Client is seeking a Telecommunications Project Inspector to support the construction and deployment of a large-scale fiber‑optic network expansion project in the Columbus, Ohio area. This project encompasses approximately 83 miles of fiber infrastructure and is currently in the engineering phase, with construction expected to begin in the coming months.
The Telecommunications Project Inspector will serve as the field representative responsible for ensuring construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, engineering designs, quality standards, and local regulations. This individual will regularly visit multiple construction crews in the field, monitor daily progress, document findings, and communicate updates to project stakeholders.
Insight Global’s Client is a telecommunications infrastructure provider focused on delivering high‑speed fiber‑optic connectivity to residential and business communities through modern fiber network construction and deployment initiatives.
Responsibilities
Inspect fiber‑optic construction activities to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, project specifications, safety standards, and company requirements.
Conduct field visits to 3–5 construction crews daily, with each crew consisting of up to four personnel.
Monitor contractor performance, workmanship quality, project progress, and adherence to schedules.
Document construction activities, deficiencies, safety concerns, and completed work through reports, photographs, and field notes.
Verify proper installation of telecommunications infrastructure including fiber pathways, conduit systems, handholes, vaults, and related outside plant facilities.
Identify and communicate issues that could impact project quality, timelines, or budgets.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and field personnel to resolve field concerns.
Review and track corrective actions to ensure deficiencies are addressed promptly. Maintain accurate project records and daily inspection reports.
Support project closeout activities and final acceptance inspections.
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience in telecommunications construction, utility inspection, fiber‑optic projects, or outside plant (OSP) operations.
Experience inspecting or overseeing field construction crews.
Understanding of telecommunications construction practices, underground utility installation, and fiber‑optic infrastructure.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, permits, and project documentation.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile reporting tools.
Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle for daily field travel.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
Preferred Qualifications
Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) or fiber network deployment experience.
Telecommunications, utility, civil construction, or OSP inspection background.
Knowledge of local permitting, right-of-way, and utility construction standards.
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience working with contractors and multiple project stakeholders in a fast‑paced construction environment.
Primarily field-based role throughout the Columbus, Ohio market.
Daily travel between active construction sites.
Monday–Friday schedule with occasional weekend work based on project needs.
Inspectors will use their own vehicles for project‑related travel.
While this position is focused on inspection and oversight, there may be occasional opportunities to assist with minor site‑related activities as needed.
