Job Summary

As the Buried Crew Foreman, you will ultimately be responsible for managing underground utility construction crews, overseeing excavation and installation activities, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. You will coordinate field operations, manage subcontractors, and deliver underground construction projects efficiently and on schedule. As the Buried Crew Foreman, your customers are broadband operators, utility providers, internal construction teams, and project stakeholders, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through leadership, operational excellence, quality workmanship, and safe project execution.

Key Responsibilities (Including, But Not Limited To)
  • Manage the daily activities of one or more underground construction crews.
  • Supervise excavation, conduit installation, utility placement, back filling, restoration, and other underground construction activities.
  • Operate and oversee heavy equipment, including backhoes, excavators, loaders, asphalt rollers, and related construction equipment.
  • Inspect job sites regularly to identify safety hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA, company policies, and customer requirements.
  • Prepare material take-offs, equipment requirements, and project resources to support daily construction activities.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and oversee subcontractors to ensure timely and quality project completion.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, work orders, and project specifications.
  • Communicate project status, schedules, and field conditions with customers, utility owners, local officials, subcontractors, and company leadership.
  • Complete daily reports, production documentation, and project records accurately.
  • Monitor crew productivity, provide training and guidance, and ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Ensure assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools are properly maintained and utilized.
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.
Required Qualifications Education, Licensing, and Certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
Experience
  • Minimum 3–5 years of underground dry utility construction experience.
  • Experience supervising construction crews and managing underground utility projects.
  • Experience operating heavy construction equipment in utility construction environments.
Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, utility drawings, and construction specifications.
  • Ability to safely operate backhoes, loaders, excavators, asphalt rollers, and other heavy equipment using CAT and DEERE controls.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utility construction methods, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with crews, subcontractors, customers, and management.
  • Ability to travel between job sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or willingness to obtain.
  • OSHA Certification.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish language skills.
  • Experience supporting telecommunications or broadband infrastructure projects.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs., with occasional lifting up to 150 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and sit for extended periods.
