Job Summary:
As the Laborer
, you will ultimately be responsible for supporting construction activities, assisting with underground utility installation, and maintaining safe, organized worksites. You will support field crews in completing daily construction operations while delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality workmanship. As the Laborer, your customers are construction supervisors, field crews, project managers, and telecommunications clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through safety, teamwork, and dependable field support.
- Attend and participate in morning and afternoon job-specific safety/huddle meetings as needed.
- Operate various tamping machines according to specifications.
- Inspect machines and equipment and assist with routine maintenance.
- Assist with loading and unloading jobsite materials.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Inspect and safely operate hand tools used for construction activities.
- Assist equipment operators with trench excavation, shoring placement, and back filling procedures.
- Install conduit in open trenches.
- Proof conduits prior to cable installation.
- Perform potholing to expose existing underground utilities.
- Assist with setting underground structures.
- Perform concrete forming and pouring activities.
- Prepare and place asphalt as required.
- Maintain company vehicles and ensure proper utilization.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and project specifications.
- Observe and promote safety compliance at all times.
- Complete 20 hours of required annual safety training.
- Participate in random drug screening programs.
- Report injuries, incidents, and unsafe conditions to the Foreman.
- Assist coworkers in ensuring the jobsite is clean and organized at the end of each shift.
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Basic knowledge of the construction industry preferred; on-the-job training provided.
- Previous outdoor construction or utility experience preferred but not required.
- Reliable transportation to various job sites.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with crew members, leadership, and clients.
- Strong understanding of construction safety procedures and policies.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Excellent vision or the use of corrective lenses.
- Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Previous experience with underground utility construction.
- Experience operating small construction equipment and hand tools.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Evidence of working successfully within a team environment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to travel locally to multiple job sites.
- Ability to safely perform construction work in active work zones.
