Position: Senior UI/UX Designer - Project-Based Contract

Angel City Chorale is seeking an experienced Senior UI/UX Designer for a defined, project-based engagement focused on redesigning and improving our website experience.

This is an independent contractor opportunity with an anticipated project budget of approximately $10,000
, subject to negotiation based on the designer's proposed approach, finalized scope, deliverables, and timeline. Payment will be divided across mutually agreed-upon project milestones.

We are looking for a Senior UI/UX Designer to redesign our website so that it better serves our diverse audiences and more effectively reflects our performances, programs, accomplishments, and mission.

The designer will work closely with our Marketing team to ensure the redesigned experience aligns with our existing brand. They will also collaborate with our Technical team to ensure that the proposed designs are responsive, accessible, technically feasible, and supportive of SEO best practices.

This engagement is focused on UI/UX strategy and design. Website development and implementation are not included unless separately agreed upon as part of the finalized scope.

Responsibilities and Deliverables
  • Conduct a heuristic evaluation of the existing website, covering usability, information architecture, accessibility, content priorities, audience needs, and key pain points
  • Research comparable choir, performing arts, and nonprofit websites
  • Develop actionable recommendations related to audience segmentation, content strategy, user journeys, and feature priorities
  • Summarize and present research findings and strategic recommendations to project stakeholders
  • Revise the website’s sitemap and information architecture
  • Evaluate the content and functional needs of each major program or service against what currently exists
  • Develop a service-differentiation strategy that gives Concerts, Youth Chorale, Community Outreach, Private Bookings, and other primary offerings distinct but cohesive identities
  • Create responsive wireframes and high-fidelity designs for approximately 8–12 key page templates, with the final template list established during scope finalization
  • Explore and establish a visual design direction based on Angel City Chorale’s existing brand identity
  • Define a web typography system covering type scale, hierarchy, line height, readability, and WCAG AA accessibility considerations
  • Account for English- and Spanish-language content when developing layouts and design-system recommendations
  • Create a reusable component and pattern library covering elements such as navigation, buttons, cards, forms, calls to action, media embeds, and content sections
  • Produce high-fidelity designs for the agreed-upon page templates
  • Define responsive behavior across desktop, tablet, and mobile breakpoints
  • Prepare organized design files, component documentation, responsive specifications, and other materials needed for developer handoff
  • Present work at agreed-upon milestones and incorporate feedback within the revision rounds established in the project agreement

The final list and number of page templates, components, revision rounds, and other deliverables will be agreed upon before the project begins.

Required Qualifications
  • Strong proficiency with Figma or a comparable interface-design and prototyping platform
  • Experience conducting UX audits and translating findings into actionable design recommendations
  • Experience creating information architecture, wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and reusable design systems
  • Experience collaborating with marketing teams, organizational stakeholders, and developers
  • Experience working within an established brand identity
  • Working knowledge of responsive design, accessibility, and SEO-related UX considerations
  • A portfolio or relevant work samples demonstrating comparable projects
  • A proactive communicator and loves to collaborate
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with non-profit organization
  • Experience redesigning websites for choirs, performing arts organizations, cultural institutions, or community-based organizations
  • Experience designing multilingual or localization-ready digital experiences
  • Familiarity with Word Press design and developer handoff workflows
