OverviewThe Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant (DA) to join its Orthodontic Division. The Division provides comprehensive orthodontic treatment for all ages. Work with respected clinicians, educators and an orthodontic resident to provide the best care to patients.
Responsibilities- Direct chairside orthodontic assisting for all Ortho residents, dental students, and faculty in the orthodontic clinic.
- Dispense, receive, process/sterilize instruments.
- Purchase instruments, equipment, and supplies used in orthodontic treatment.
- Provide oral hygiene instructions.
- Ensure efficient operation during faculty and clinical sessions.
- Fabricate vacuum‑formed retainers.
- Pour and trim models.
- Organize record system.
- Review financing options with new patients.
- Interface with patients, parents, faculty, Ortho residents, dental assistants, and staff in the graduate Ortho clinic.
- 1 year experience in dental office practices and procedures, including dental operatory practices and procedures.
- Experience with four‑handed assisting techniques.
- Inventory record‑keeping.
- Care of dental equipment.
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/email.
- Desired:
Orthodontic experience, preferably in a dental setting. - Desired: 2‑4 years’ experience in an educational setting.
- Required:
color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination; hand‑eye coordination; visual acuity and communication/language development. - Ability to use both hands, manipulate instruments, operate dental equipment, stand, sit for duration of time.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens, chemical hazards, vibrating equipment, use of sharp instruments, latex.
