What You'll Do
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is seeking TWO dynamic, mission-driven section administrators to provide strategic leadership within the Bureau of Maternal Child and Family Health. While each position oversees a different program portfolio, both play a critical role in shaping statewide public health outcomes for Ohio's children, adolescents, women and families:
Position 1:Women and Family Health Services Section Administrator
The Women & Family Health Services Section oversees statewide programs that promote reproductive and preconception health, oral health, asthma prevention, and broader maternal and family health initiatives. The section leads major federally funded programs—including Maternal & Child Health, Title X, and Sexual Risk Avoidance—and ensures compliance with state and federal requirements. It plays a critical role in advancing evidence‑based strategies that strengthen the health and well‑being of women and families across Ohio.
Position2:
Child, Adolescent and School Health Section Administrator
The Child, Adolescent & School Health Section directs statewide programs focused on early childhood health, adolescent health, school nursing, and mandated school health screenings. It manages initiatives such as OhioSEE and School‑Based Health Centers while ensuring school health services comply with state and federal requirements. This section strengthens collaboration with education and community partners to enhance student health and access to services statewide
Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Program Oversight- Lead daily operations for assigned statewide health programs and develop policies, procedures, goals and strategies aligned with bureau priorities.
- Ensure full compliance with federal grants, state laws and national standards of practice.
- Supervise and develop staff, including delegation of work, coaching and performance evaluation.
- Communicate expectations, lead staff meetings, and foster a collaborative, including team environment.
- Act on behalf of the Bureau Chief when delegated, providing programmatic and policy oversight.
- Direct planning, implementation, coordination and development of federal and state grant programs.
- Develop and manage budgets, ensure fiscal accountability and oversee federal grant applications, cooperative agreements, and contracts.
- Conduct formative and summative evaluations using qualitative and quantitative methodologies to measure progress, outcomes and program impact.
- Assess current health service levels, identify gaps, and recommend enhancements or expansions aligned with statewide priorities.
- Serve as a liaison to state agencies, legislators, professional organizations, coalitions, and community partners.
- Provide subject‑matter expertise to legislative staff, policymakers and external stakeholders.
- Represent bureau leadership at statewide meetings, hearings and policy forums
- Proven public-health leadership with a strong record of managing complex programs.
- Expertise in policy development supported by legislative analysis and grant and budget administration and development experience.
- Clear and confident communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations and prepare high‑quality technical reports.
- Collaborative relationship-builder across government agencies, healthcare organizations, educational institutions and community partners.
- Supportive, proactive supervisory skills aimed at developing engaged, high-performing teams.
- Strategic thinking and problem‑solving capabilities comfortable overseeing multifaceted projects, analyzing data and guiding program direction.
- 5 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file.
