Job Overview

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (OMFR), is seeking a dental hygienist with strong imaging skills and a desire to provide patient care in a fast‑paced clinical environment. The successful applicant will join a collaborative OMFR team that includes an oral and maxillofacial radiologist, dentists, dental hygiene educators, a dental assistant, an administrative assistant, and student assistants.

Together, this team provides imaging services to more than 6,500 patients annually while supporting the college’s educational, clinical, and service missions. Schedule and Hours

The Imaging Clinic operates Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This is a full‑time position, working 32 to 40 hours per week. Work schedules are established to support clinic operations, with some flexibility in start and end times within standard business hours.

Salary

Target Hiring Pay Range: $35.24 - $44.04 per hour based on experience and education.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain high‑quality intraoral and extraoral digital images.
  • Review imaging requests, verify patient identity, prepare patients for imaging procedures, evaluate image quality for diagnostic acceptability, and support faculty and students with the delivery of imaging services and clinical workflow.
  • Provide hands‑on instruction to dental and dental hygiene students in imaging techniques and patient management.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Accurately enter patient information into the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Facilitate patient flow through the clinic.
  • Coordinate care and communication with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Import, export, and manage digital imaging records.
  • Maintain quality assurance standards for imaging procedures and equipment.
  • Foster a patient‑centered, supportive environment that promotes high‑quality care and a positive patient experience.
Physical Requirements

A dental hygienist needs to be able to use both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental handpieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for handpieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures.

The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand‑eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to blood borne pathogens.

Screening Requirements

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

Education / Experience Qualifications
  • Required:

    Two‑or Four‑year Dental Hygiene degree. Ohio Dental Hygienist license by the Ohio State Dental Board.
  • Desired:
    Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene or Education; 2 or more years of clinical practice experience; and experience documenting patient care activities and navigating workflows within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system.
