The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant (DA) who will share the responsibility of driving the mobile dental clinic (Dental H.O.M.E. Coach) for The Ohio State University College of Dentistry’s Office of Community Education in the Division of Dental Public Health.
The successful candidate will be responsible for direct chair-side dental assisting for all faculty, residents and students in the Dental H.O.M.E. Coach for the College of Dentistry, including assisting with children and special needs patients; dispenses, receives, and processes instruments, equipment and supplies used in the delivery of treatment; stocks clinic supplies for the clinical area; rotates stock, maintains supply inventory, which includes moving materials, pushing and pulling carts, lifting small equipment, stooping, climbing up and down vehicle stairs.
The successful candidate also provides oral hygiene instructions, ensures efficient coach operation during clinical sessions; organizes records system; offers a systematic and streamline approach to the delivery of care to patients at various locations, and takes radiographs on young and adult patients.
This position requires a valid CDL driver’s license, successful completion of background check(s) and drug & alcohol screening, and the individual is subject to random drug screening per CDL regulations.
Work ScheduleThe core hours of the College of Dentistry are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm. Hours may vary based on needs and may include weekend and/or evening work.
Hiring RangeThe targeted hiring pay range is $20.24 to $26.44 based on experience and education. A 10% pay allowance is provided when the individual is actively driving the Coach.
Physical RequirementsA dental assistant needs to have use of both hands, as well as dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures.
The ability to sit and stand for an extended period of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); nitrous oxide; vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.
Required: 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental office practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in dental operatory practices and procedures; 3 months experience (3 courses) in four-handed assisting techniques; 3 months experience (3 courses) in inventory record-keeping; 3 months experience (300 hrs. training) in care of dental equipment; 1 month experience (100 hrs. training) in using a computer.
Current CPR/BLS certification and radiographer license required at all times throughout employment and chair side dental assistant experience required. Basic computer literacy including familiarity with Microsoft Office and internet/email is required to perform clerical responsibilities. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required within 6 months from hire.
Experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments and procedures, especially those involving pediatric dentistry procedures; experience in an educational and/or hospital setting, experience with electronic health record is desired.
